Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
- What changes if I opt out?
- Which rights does California law give me?
- How do I opt out?
- Does the site read Global Privacy Control?
Effects that an opt-out has
An opt-out puts a permanent note on the customer’s email address that their personal data may never be sold or shared for cross-context behavioral advertising. Gorgetly sells and shares no personal data today, so the note changes nothing in how an order is handled, and it stays in place if that practice ever changes. It does not stop order emails, which are needed to deliver the dress.
The rights that California law gives
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and its 2020 amendment, the California Privacy Rights Act, a California resident can opt out of the sale and the sharing of personal information and can ask a business to restrict how sensitive personal information is used. Customers in other states get the same opt-out from us, whether or not their own state’s law requires it.
Three steps that record an opt-out
- Email contact@gorgetly.com with the subject line Opt out, or write the same two words in the Contact Us page form.
- Give the email address used at checkout, so that the note goes on the right record.
- Keep our confirmation, which arrives within 3 business days.
The opt-out is honored within 15 business days of the request, and in practice from the day we confirm it.
Browser signals that we honor
Browsers that transmit a Global Privacy Control signal are treated as having opted out, and nothing more is required from the person using them. The site runs no advertising tag, and its only analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics, uses no cookies and does not follow visitors to other sites, so honoring the signal means that no advertising tag will ever run for that browser if one is added.
Checks that confirm a request
We do not ask for ID to record an opt-out. We only match the request to the email address on the orders, and we ask one question by email if the request comes from an address we do not recognize.
Service that stays the same after an opt-out
Prices, shipping charges, delivery times, returns and the help desk stay exactly the same for a customer who opts out. Treating someone differently for using a privacy right is against the law, and it would also be pointless here.
Words that the law defines
Selling, as the law uses the word, covers any transfer of personal information to a business that pays for it, in cash or in kind. To share means to give it to another business for advertising that follows a person across websites. Passing a delivery address to our fulfillment partner or a carrier so that a dress can arrive is neither a sale nor sharing, because those companies act on our instructions.
Agents who act on someone’s behalf
Someone the customer has authorized in writing can file the opt-out on the customer’s behalf. A parent or guardian can send one for a person under 16, although Gorgetly sells adult dresses and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
